As much as I love being a top 3 ranked user on PowPing, the reality is it's not deserved. It would be better if it was ranked by top tipped. However, the insistence on PowPing not taking a % of tips makes the results rather gameable as one could wash tip themselves. The lack of monetisation for users or the platform so far makes the user rankings itself less valuable.

You're right, the ranking is useless, I'm thinking of getting rid of it, or at least making it much less prominent. The users page was there just to help people discover each other in the beginning, nothing more, nothing less. Now that we have channels this is not really necessary, in fact it's better if it's hidden. The user ranking leaderboard is offputting to new users who have nothing to do with BSV. The first thing they will think is "Who are all these people and why should I follow them?". This is why I've de-emphasized the user leaderboard and showing channels as the front page now. The first landing page you will see when you come to Powping for the first time is the channels directory.

this personal user ranking was fun anyway. The same scheme in twetch :)

Well said.@unwriter
It'd be nice if, in the future, channel creators could implement their own tipping logic.
How do you measure the "lack of monetization"? Is there a way to compare tips accumulated in the first month of powping with maybe the first month of Twetch or Bit.Sv or Streamanity? I would think the comparisons would be somewhat close, no?
jackcliu replied:
What % of the world economy is sales of goods and services and what % is tips.

I’m guessing it’s 10:1 tips:wages in waiters, valet, bag checks, coat checks, and many other jobs here in the tip-happy USA. Perhaps what determines this is historical precedent? And we are quite young in the social media+money world atm. One small factoid: been on Twetch for over a year and Powping for over a month and PP tips >> fixed-price-twikes . But I’m not the famous “Jack”! So you may have completely different metrics.
jackcliu replied:
I was talking about the entire economy. How much do teachers make off wages vs. tips. How much does LeBron James make off wages vs. tips. How much do you pay your rent vs. tip your landlord. The numbers are closer to 100 to 1. You spend 100K a year and you tip 1K a year.
jackcliu replied:
Twetch is tipping based so I don't get your point.
bring prof Charles X here ! wipe that button. Invoque the creator.
sorry for hijacking your thread@jackcliu @unwriter maybe put a collapse menu on the same tipper? Could have it's a flaw as well 🤔
