"And the peace of God, which transcends all human understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:7 We live in times that make us feel vulnerable. There is so much that threatens us physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. We need protection from it all because it steals away our peace and well-being. The verse above from Philippians reminds us of a peace we have that guards us from all the assaults of life in a fallen world. It is a peace that this world cannot provide but rather God alone. It is a peace that protects our hearts and minds and secures us in that which is most essential. John 14:27 declares, Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." These are the words of Jesus given just before He went to the cross, and they are promises for us today. Jesus has given us the peace of His continued presence and the knowledge of salvation. These truths remind us that He is in charge even in a world that often appears so threatening. Knowing this affords a divine peace that transcends the assaults of sin, death, and the power of the devil. When your heart feels heavy and your mind is overwhelmed, go to the promises of God and He will lift you up above it all. Remember all that Christ has done through the cross and empty tomb and do not be troubled or afraid. The Lord is greater than the world, and He will see you through!
