I think the only way for Christians to unite and stop caring about non-essential theology, is for world wide persecution of Christians to begin. Christians in the west have never really faced persecution like early Christians, or those in the middle east, communist eastern Europe, or China. When they do (and they will), the prosperity gospel (lowercase g) will be a thing of the past.
Its all crazy, I was raised in a Christian family, and it completely leaves out the Extra-Terrestrial reality, one that everyone will face within the next hundred years. There, let the persecution begin.
This seems antithetical on the surface. Are we tp pray that an antichrist comes so that Christian's are more united? It raises questions... Why is uniting Christians a goal? Does that end justify the means? Ought Jewish people celebrate the holocaust for the unity it brought?
danlazo replied:
We don't need to pray for the antichrist to come. Unity under persecution is not a goal, it's a consequence.
morpheus replied:
Is unity another name for centralization? Putting this another way any, unity other than purely spiritual may be what allows persecution to succeed
danlazo replied:
Persecution will succeed because God will allow it for a time. I'm using unity as of like mind about the simple essentials, without the unnecessary bells and whistles like a building, a live band, paid staff, ordained leadership, etc.
to play devils advocate... what if bitcoin is god's way of proving the prosperity gospel people right? I kid
gendale replied:
But, real talk, I have faith that Christ can redeem the prosperity churches, just as he can redeem the Catholic and the Protestant churches. the Charismatic movement is a part of God's plan. I mean... I have doctrinal issues with 95% of Christianity. But at the end of the day, those folks are saved. My job is to evangelize and to be sure that for my part, the church I inhabit is without spot or wrinkle, and is holy and without blemish. That's still hard work for me and I don't by any means consider myself having achieved that.

Why would there be a widespread persecution? Christianity is almost an inert force at this point. Most atheist countries at this point are extremely liberal and is perfectly capable of absorbing those religious impulses and directing them to further liberalism.
