My first bonsai, a Chinese Elm. Love the curved and gnarled trunk!

This is an Azalea I'm currently working on. Note the thick trunk and small leaves creating a sense of scale. This is highly desirable in bonsai.

This is a Gardenia I am currently working on. I will be putting this into a bonsai pot in the fall. Considering going for a cascade style because of how it sweeps to the left; however I think informal upright would also be an appropriate style for this tree.

Nice to see others into that. I am very beginner and my plants are just 2 years old and I will read with interest what you more experienced fellows have to say.

The satsuki azalea is a very popular bonsai. 'Satsuki' is the Japanese term for the month of May, which is also when the flowers bloom.

The art of Bonsai is thought to have originated in China. It was called Penjing and often depicted small landscapes rather then singular trees. Brought to Japan by Buddhist monks the art form was heavily influenced by Zen Buddhism.
