Hydrangea. Technically not bonsai but I had this pot laying around and figured it would go nicely with it.

Pyracantha that is in it's winter dormancy. I see areas that need improvement but for now i'll just let it settle into its new pot.

It's not a bonsai, but I want you to see it because the autumn leaves were so beautiful. This is a park where old buildings in Tokyo such as samurai residences from the Edo period are preserved. If the thread is dirty, delete it

Camellia season! The samurai would use the oil of these flowers to maintain their swords. The scent is also very pleasant and calming.

This is an Azalea I'm currently working on. Note the thick trunk and small leaves creating a sense of scale. This is highly desirable in bonsai.

This is a Gardenia I am currently working on. I will be putting this into a bonsai pot in the fall. Considering going for a cascade style because of how it sweeps to the left; however I think informal upright would also be an appropriate style for this tree.

The satsuki azalea is a very popular bonsai. 'Satsuki' is the Japanese term for the month of May, which is also when the flowers bloom.

The art of Bonsai is thought to have originated in China. It was called Penjing and often depicted small landscapes rather then singular trees. Brought to Japan by Buddhist monks the art form was heavily influenced by Zen Buddhism.
