Taking a lot of self control not replying to ... certain sentiments on Twitter. Seems like people would rather be in Etherium. I guess you can’t blame them for not having any expertise in business...

Learning EdgeQL and it’s really wonderful. Everything in EdgeQL returns a set of elements so queries are effortlessly composeable. https://edgedb.com/docs/edgeql/overview/ I always felt like SQL needed an update. It was created around the same time as C. There’s nothing wrong with C but unless you need the fine grained control, you probably shouldn’t use it. Even then, Rust is becoming a standard for systems programming.

Tipping on here actually feels quite good. There’s an initial hurdle of choosing how much to tip since it’s a new behavior but I find that it’s temporary. The amounts I’m tipping are small enough that I don’t think about it too much. On the other hand it feels like a really nice way of communicating to the person you’re tipping how much you appreciated the interaction. For whatever reason it doesn’t seem to cheapen the interaction. Perhaps because the focus is on the interaction and not the tipp

One of the best ways to learn is to go on podcast binges from the best in a field. You get not just information but you will absorb through osmosis the way they think. Very valuable but you need a good bit of exposure for it to work.

Just found exactly what I was looking for! A relational database that uses an object model and doesn’t use SQL. Has a very slick functional query language and can output queries directly to objects or JSON. Best of both worlds, looks very promising! https://edgedb.com/

Transaction fees put downward pressure on transaction size/quantity and thus overall blockchain size. There is no such downward pressure on websites. In fact many websites download many megabytes of Javascript files to render a simple article. And yet a nonprofit (Internet Archive) is able to save and serve multiple snapshots per day of the entire public facing web. I think the conversation around scalability is really getting confused. It’s entirely scalable for a handful of services to index

Given the uncanny quality of GPT-3 (a new text generating AI model), do you think people will be willing to all go through a full KYC process on social media to prove that they’re a real person? We already have troll farms with very low paid people in 3rd world countries pretending to have conversations but with AI you can do this at unlimited scale. What do you think? Another method would be to require proof of work but in that case you could still have hyper intelligent AI pretending to be a p
